It is the time for prayer.

The unfolding events in Israel and Lebanon are surreal in that we can observe and debate it in real time. Want to know first-hand what it's like in Israel tonight? Visit The Muqata. Or, for a media version of the events, casually browse through the Jerusalem Post or The Lebanon Daily Star.

I gleaned these posts from the feedback on an article on the war in today's Jerusalem Post. I selected these particular posts for their religious references...these aren't even the ugly ones. It appears to me that this world wide web is fueling hatred and escalation of hostilities, not understanding. See if you agree.

This is war. And this is not Israel's fight alone. It is not and has not been just with the Palestinians. With the election of Hamas the Palestinians have openly joined forces with the Islamo-Faschist Axis of Evil. This is not going to be over in a day or two. When we win the final battle in this theatre, World War III with the Islamo-Fascists will be over. This is the major battle area of WWIII. I think the free world has already realized this. I am so proud of the job you are doing! Keep it up! Help is on the way. It has to be.

Amen, I agree with you 100%, if the Iraqis don't want democracy, withdraw your forces and nuke them all. Israel, do not show restraint, the enemy is not only Hezbollah but each and everyone worshipping the false god they call allah, kill them all! They hate us, they want to take our freedom and democracy away from us and to impose Sharia dictatorships upon us. I say it s better they all die. We the true Christians of the world are proud of our brothers and sisters , the Jews, Shalom Israel!

The projected path of the Pillar of Fire is quite clear. Beirut. Asads palace. Damascus. Teheran. The enemies of Israel are about to encounter a lesson of biblical proportions.

It's time to bomb Lebanon and Syria back to the stone age...RIGHT NOW! They've never gotten that far out of it anyway. Hopefully the idiotic Israeli government will figure out that the only way to fight these killers is to give them a dose of their own medicine. Civilian or military, KILL 'EM ALL, and let God sort 'em out.

I think Israel is a criminal country that has no legitimacy. A state that targets and murders innocent civilians is more of a terrorist entity than a civilized state. my heart goes for these valiant Lebanese guerillas who are standing in defiance in the face of brute force. Long Live Hizbullah...May God be with you

Too all the Americans out there who question this escalation in the middle east. I have one reminder to them. Remember 911 and how these Islamos fanatics were dancing in the streets cheering the deaths of our fellow Americans! I for one have NO PITY on the terror groups when what they give out is FINALLY returned back upon them! They had numerous chances for peace with Israel BUT they choose terror! Well lets call it their Karma! I hope Israel destroys EVERY LAST ONE of them!

The People of Israel have tried to live in peace, even to go so far as to give up some of her land, but peace is not to be had... The surrounding Arab/Muslim countries will not allow this, all they know is hate and war. They say all they want is there land back, Hello; It s not there land. It belongs to the Jewish nation of Israel, and they have no right to any of it. How can Lebanon commit an act of war by kidnapping two solders, and then cry to the U.N. that Israel is retaliating. Israel has A GOD GIVEN RIGHT TO DEFIEND HERSELF!!! And to think otherwise is just absurd. They should punish ALL of those who had a hand in trying to harm her.

Well, there's no turning back now. The internet won't be turned off tomorrow. This is really ironic to me, because I had a challenging discussion with a woman last week in which she passionately insisted that war will never again be possible, because people are so knowledgeable now and will prevent their leaders from going to war.

Without trying to be melodramatic, could we be witnessing the beginning of the end?

Sir Chuck, looking forward to my prayer time tonight...

  1. "Without trying to be melodramatic, could we be witnessing the beginning of the end?"

I don’t think so, Sir Chuck. There are at least two things that have yet to happen:

    1. Preaching of the gospel in the whole world. We have a ways to go.

"This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come Mat 24:14

    2. The antichrist must be revealed. There are a lot of ideas, but not much substance in that area.

Let no one in any way deceive you, for {it will not come} unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 2Th 2:3

So, my guess, and it is only a guess, is that the world will hobble along with God watching over to prevent total collapse.

  2. It seems to me that this isn't really much different from the way things have always been in most parts of the world-and have been in that part of the world for as long as any of us can remember. "nation shall rize against nation and kingdom against kingdom." It is the way of men to fight against each other.

  3. Fair points, Sirs J and J. Apparently, with the Holy Spirit comes a level head.

Plenty of evidence out there that without it, chaos prevails.

  4. Confirmation of Sir Jasons point.

The people of the region have been glued to their television screens, watching the horror of Israel's bombs and missiles raining down on Gaza and Lebanon, destroying our infrastructure, our homes and our civilians' lives and livelihoods. Although these American-made weapons do nothing to diminish the resolve of militants, they steadily chip away our entire region's sense of compassion and morality. The moral vacuum left behind is filled with a palpable hatred, rage and desire for limitless revenge. Lest we forget, it was during Israel's bloody invasion of Lebanon in 1982 that a young Osama bin Laden watched the destruction of high-rises in Beirut and first resolved to take down the towers of the World Trade Center.

Israel's actions in Gaza and Lebanon are now creating a new generation of militants who will stop at nothing to wreak revenge against America and Israel. If the current pattern holds, this next generation of militants will outdo their predecessors, just as Hizbullah, Hamas and Al-Qaeda have surpassed the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Palestine Liberation Organization. They will take the current global conflict to even more uncompromising and terrifying levels.

I wonder if that woman was more knowledgeable then Napolean, Fredrick the Great, Cardinal Richilieu, and on and on.
It is a pecuilar conceit of the twentieth-century that A)the aggregate of knowlege available makes an average person from our age more knowlegeable then an average person from a previous age and B) that such doubtful superiority in knowlege(obtained of course by our ancestors in the first place)confers an inherant superiority. Actually it is not a new conceit-read Longfellow's "The arsenal at springfield"(Were half the power that fills the world with terror/ Were half the wealth bestowed on camps and courts/Given to redeem the human mind from error/There were no need of arsenals and forts). Longfellow was a worthy author but he was naive and missed the point. It is not lack of knowlege that causes wars but the nature of man. This can be decptive because large wars are not as common as the used to be. The reason for that is because Great Power wars have become more risky-and because power at the present time is monopolized in the hands of powers that are unlikly to use it as cavialierly as in time gone by, especially not against each other. In the meantime savages are killing each other as profusely as in Longfellow's time as is brought to our attention by tales from the Sudan, Rwanda, and other forgotten places.
People like that Longfellowish woman you were talking to have the problem of falsely assuming human nature is good-and therefore all that is needed to make people good is to eliminate things preventing goodness -including ignorance. In fact if someone is knowledgeable(though not wise)but evil then he will be more effective at doing evil and therefore cause more damage. The devil also knows more then that "Longfellowish woman". Wars are always caused because someone sinned. That doesn't mean that there are no Just Wars but that even a Just War is necessary because of human depravity and so is the result of sin.
As far as the present fighting in Lebanon is going, I would estimate it will go on for one or two weeks more. The kidnapped soldier was the immiediate pretext. What the Israelis want is two things; to have Hezbollah back from the border-and frankly to give it a good enough beating to keep it quiet until it recovers. Hopefully they will be able to do all this without causeing to much disruption. If I am right it should settle down soon to the Middle East's eternal lull(peace isn't really the right word)again.
And there is an "upside" if you wish to call it that. Sometimes a few weeks at high intensity is not as bad in the long run as low intensity going on and on.

Hope you're right, Sir Jason. Yesterday's news, though, was all about the US and European countries trying to evacuate their citizens. They might have a sense that the conflict is going to get worse before it gets better...

I hope I'm right too. It will of course get worse before it gets better. However two or three weeks
is the usual length of a large scale
campaign in that area. In any case they would be evacuating their citizenry-after all it is small comfort if things slow down two days after one is killed by a stray shell-and shells know nothing about chivalry.
What I am worried about is that it will stop too soon leaving a nasty mess made too no purpose. Like arresting half the mobsters in an area and leaving the other half to take it out on the populace-and smashing a lot of windows in the process of making the incomplete sweep.

  9. If it stops to soon the Hezzies will be in a hurry to get their turf back, while someone else might have seen the chance to get in. The Israelis would be gone-they don't want to be there, they just want the Hezzies gone. The result might be a nasty little vendetta which would be worse then this.
