US Attacks Iran

Something surreal about reading about an imminent beginning to war in advance. Could you imagine the plans for Pearl Harbor being described in the international press on November 30, 1941?

The Russian Defense Ministry is denying the rumored attack, which appeared in a story from the Russian news agency, quoting a Russian intelligence official. Well, that's comforting...

Sir Chuck, kneeling now to pray

    Yes, they do have a bigger mouth then is good for them. In this case though it might be better for them to know then not to know-put the squeeze on and all. In fact I wonder if it was deliberate. Making an open threat gives them know way to fold without looking bad but making it indirectly is different.
    Of course maybe I have read to many spy stories and I am giving our rulers credit for more cunning then they possess. Still...

    Well, I'm rather sure it was deliberate. But the motive is debatable. They might be

    1) Trying to bluff one government or another into an irrational response;

    2) Trying to justify increased Russian intervention on Iran's side;

    3) Trying to excite the UN into some kind of monkeyworks plan against the US;

    4) Trying to trump the US build-up in the area by giving the US libs something to scream about;

    5) Or simply showing off their intelligence capabilities to the Pentagon.

    Or any of a number of other reasons. Pick one.

    Sir C, watching it all unfold

  3. Actually I am not sure what side Russia is on and they may not be sure.
    They have a motive to side with Iran
    to annoy us. However there is only so
    far they would be willing to take it.

  4. Agreed, Sir Ja. Russia has only one real allegiance...to that of "Mother Russia". Whatever other alliances they form are only temporary arrangements for the convenience of Russian ends.

    One might argue the same for other countries of the world, but history suggests that no place on earth is more separatist than Russia. Even China would appear to recognize and capitalize on win/win relationships. But with Russia, the objective always seems to be one of win/lose.
