Back into the Gap

In October, 1997, over a million (seemed like way over a million to me) men came together on the National Mall in Washington to affirm their commitment to serving their God, their families, and their country in the name of Jesus Christ. Promise Keepers 1997 Stand in the Gap event was unlike anything ever witnessed in this country.

How encouraging, then, it is that ten years later men of this land decided that occasional re-affirmation is worthy and significant. Stand in the Gap 2007 was held this past weekend and according to this report, the power of unity in Christ prevailed once again. And now that the organizers are planning to repeat the event every ten years, perhaps we Christians can focus on our efforts of the interim periods. At least some of the 2007 attendees lamented that the state of our nation has gotten worse. Either our nation, along with the rest of the world, is in its death spiral to the End of Days, or conscious, visible affirmations of this type can lead our nation into the next great Awakening. In either case, outspoken, public affirmations of faith are a good thing.

May God bless all those who publicly proclaim the name of Jesus, and support us all in our private moments when we need Him the most.

  1. It is great that there are still men who seek to do the will of God. They are like lights in the darkness.
